Broderie is a new venture for me, we opened at the end of September 2005 and along with amitie textiles we operate from a bright and spacious shop in Bentleigh, a southern suburb of Melbourne, Australia.
I have always been interested in any of the textile arts, being a master of none, I have enjoyed cross stitch and embroidery and patchwork in particular.
My mother, Molly, and her sisters were a great inspiration in my early years and I made all my own clothes for many years also, spending most of my wages each week on a new piece of fabric from ‘Buckley & Nunn’, then off up Collins Street I would go to have covered buttons made for the latest new outfit. I also made a new dress, a shift, to go to the surf carnivals we attended each week all around the Victorian coast. Those Lifesavers also cost me a fortune! Then there was also a new dress to go to all the balls we attended in those days, you can see I was busy stitching!!!!
I have spent many happy hours over the last twenty years either teaching or working in the industry and have had the pleasure of meeting so many people in that time that share the passion and I still get a warm happy feeling when I see a combination of colours that appeal or I open up a new box of dmc threads!!!!
There was a quote that said ;
‘Why is it when I’m half way through creative joys diminish,
It is much more fun to start a piece than it ever is to finish’
Though I have finished many things of course, I think that the author must have been looking over my shoulder!
