birds are welcome at my place

i have often wondered what it is in our makeups that makes one person so different from another when it comes to the passion for collecting things! years ago i loved houses, pictures of and small ornament ones, patch worked ones and embroidered ones, photos of, cut out bits from magazines of rooms i liked and dreamt of having, dolls houses. and i also loved birds. as time goes on and things come and go in favour as decorative pieces both houses and birds have had their run. why do some people collect frogs as opposed to owls, or salt and pepper shakers, or stamps or bottles (i quite like a good bottle also). here are some of my birds.

hearts are sad and broken

there has been alot said and written about the devastating bushfires in our state of victoria, australia. in the north of our big country, there are floods, in victoria it has forgotten how to rain, the garden state has been so dry and now burnt, so many lives lost and so many more lives changed forever. homes can be rebuilt and trees will grow back, but for those who have been directly affected in any way at all, it is something that they will never be able to erase from hearts, souls and minds. my special thoughts have been with you all, as i watched the television images of the beautiful, but oh so sad faces of the men, women and little children. i hope your days get happier.

 

i hope that your broken hearts and spirits mend in the not too distant future.

 

on a personal note on the 12/02/09 i also lost a long time friend, no names mentioned, he was a very private person. i just want to say that i loved you for a long time and you gave to my life so much over all the years. i will remember to check my tyres!  sleep in peace forever my dear old boy! but you left far too early, there was alot more to be done!

 

on the sewing scene, it has been a bit too hot for much to be achieved, though we did have a very happy sewing day on the last saturday of january. airconditioning, lunch and good conversation made us forget just how hot it was outside. this is one little piece that jan finished and is off to made into a cushion.

 

 

sadness is all around this state and city, people have been wonderful and so helpful, it is amazing, the best in people come out. please let us not stop caring!

the week at the beach

well as all of you know who live in melbourne, australia, we have had a week a record temperatures, very hot! but as reported in my last post i spent the week down at philip island and was spoiled by the fact that the beautiful beach and water were just at the bottom of our sandy track, no roads to cross and no cars to get in, just a slow stroll, in my case, to the calming waters of western port bay, the bit between french island and philip island. the general scene from the beach was somewhat interrupted by these monsters that moved in from bass straight to calmer waters for maintenance, but the manouvers were interesting to watch. gladly they are only there on a temporary basis.

 

yes, two of these oil rigs came to visit. at low tide you felt that you could walk out to them, but of course they were in the deep chanel.

then we also had some fun with our camera's and as the sun was going down we played with our shadows.

   

and a crowd started gathering, wanting to be part of this

 

we were hoping that this 'person' would join us too, but he just would not stand in the right direction

 

it was a great place to be this week in the heat

 

we certainly felt very spoilt.

then yesterday we had a very happy sewing day to bring January 2009 to a close.
