bright checks and cooler weather

just as the weather has turned cooler a friend has just finished this lovely bright check crocheted rug for her daughter, lucky you cherie!!!!! but i know you think she is a good mum and of course she is, she tells us often enough!!!!!!! well done marlene, another 'thing' finished and off one list to the other.

 

and these are my 'lizzie's' purchased from our local travelling flower boy on saturday.

 

and this is my most used old pincushion, beside the sewing maching whenever i am using it. over the years it has served me well, yes i know it needs a good tidy up, but at least i am honest and showing you just how it is and it has been a good and faithful friend!

sewing day and soup

soup was served for lunch yesterday at our saturday sewing day, say that quickly 6 times and see how mixed up you can get. it was anzac day, we had the march on the telly and enjoyed our day chatting, stitching and collecting some finished items, ( they have been featured earlier ).

cooler weather has come to town and we enjoyed being inside, heater on and stitching! if you live in my area, we have a very good service! lovely fresh flowers for sale at the door on saturdays, once a month! and matthew comes on our sewing days, caused quite a crowd in the street yesterday.

 

I bought a bunch of 'lizzies', with a name like mine, i would hardly buy roses when 'lizzies' are available. they are fresh and beautiful and just a slight hint of mauve! thanks for calling matthew.

then all good things come to an end, some of us were missing cos of the football between essendon and collingwood, the traditional match held on anzac day at the mcg. it always seems to be a good match, essendon the winners this year, but a very close match. marion and the two jan's and beth all took their new bits home and left me with no one to play with. all the girls were gone!!!!! marion's mates had gone home to her place!

some of us are slow learners and i think that i have just worked out how to do a link!!!!!! i am feeling clever!!!!!!! if it has worked it is quite easy really, but i still feel clever. 

as i wander about in blogland i often see things that i admire and love and wish for etc. some of the photos and pictures put up are amazing and interesting. a couple i would like to share with you and i apologise that i cannot remember where i saw them, but they are great i think. having just uploaded the first one of the rooster i see it explains where it is from, i just thought it was such a good example of being at the right place at the right time !

and this belonged to the brother of an uncle of mine, it was a metal cover for something about the size of a box of matches, but were matches in the same size boxes then as they are now.

it is a reminder of ANZAC DAY on saturday and of all those who have joined the forces and defended this land and others both then and now. 'lest we forget

tickled pink

this rose was given to me some years ago by some special friends when my father died. the rose is called 'tickled pink' and without them knowing, it was an expession my dad used frequently when he was happy about something. i put it in a pot and it has always struggled a bit really, but it surprises me often also and this easter has been no exception. one single beautiful bloom and another unopened bud.

 

some years ago when i managed an embroidery shop 'bustle and bows', there was a stitching group who met once a month. they met together as a group of friends stitching elizabeth bradley tapestry projects and also shared their lives, thoughts, their happiness and sadness. one of the girls today said it was a 'spiritual' group that she misses.

joyce chew was a member of that group and sadly she died on good friday. joyce was a gentle lady who was so clever, her stitching was amazing and the amount she produced in a lifetime was unbelievable. I had the pleasure of sharing some of joyce's decisions about what she would stitch and how from needlepoint, cross stitch on linen over one thread and on silk gauze. many of you who read this blog will remember some of joyce's work which she loaned at times for display in the shop. I am lucky enough to have a silk gauze piece of roses that she gave to me, that I will always treasure and that has always been loved. to her husband and family, i offer our sympathy, joyce was a much loved friend and i was looking forward to that cup of tea and a cake we were going to share. this rose is for you joyce!

i am sure that if there is a stitching heaven, joyce will have already found it! stitch in peace forever and eat cake!

marion's mates and other things

this is one view that i never tire of as i travel the highway in hobart between my two places of residence when i am over there. you come up over the crest of a hill and then see this, and i love, love the house on the hill! they have added bits to an old stone barn, i would love to knock on the door and check it out and wow, look at the view.

 

 

all the sewing girls are having such fun with these little characters! these are marion's mates, blue eyed beauties that just make you smile. it will be a fun cushion on the couch! over time i think they will be each given a name and become part of her family.

 

 

there are five of them, marion's mates that is, i think they should all have a name starting with 'm' !

 

and this rose goddess and her babies with little liberty scraps added as a border and then made into a cushion look wonderful too.
