and another weekend is upon us and i have not told you about our trip last sunday.
my airport driver and his wife, took another friend and myself out on another day trip, this time we went to the victorian country town of castlemaine, about two hours away from melbourne. we went via malmsbury and stopped at the bakery, there was a rumour that the pies and pasties from there were very good. it was a hive and so we all bought some to take home to put in the freezer. i will end this post with a photo of a very happy customer!
castlemaine was buzzing with people, lots happening in this lovely town, we had a coffee stop and then went to threadbear the patchwork shop in the town.
that is the face of a well known patchworker and stitcher! threadbear is well stocked with reproduction fabrics and patterns and we all came away with small purchases. we did have some money left after the stop at the pasties and pies!
as you can see in this town there are lovely old shops with verandas and window shoppers! sadly this one was not open, we all loved these orange pots!
and 'brenda' look at this, taken because we thought it was gorgeous, but i also know you love noah's ark!
we were still window shopping! these people were just everywhere, even looking at the local real estate!
we were heading for the shop with the pink sign! malmaison a delightful shop full of goodies, a very pleasent owner and a good atmosphere.
we found things in here that were just what we wanted for gifts and for ourselves.
we also found habadash a lovely little shop in the midland hotel complex, a good place to stay we were told.
and owner sonia collard made us most welcome as we wandered through all her delightful bits and pieces, buttons, bits and bobs!
if you are travelling to this lovely country town, check on the opening times of the shops mentioned as they are not all open every day, certainly at the weekends though. and of course we had lunch and i don't remember the name of the cafe, but it was just up the road from 'malmaison', it was busy and also delicious! they serve breakfast all day, and lots of other yummy things.
eggs three different ways, all very gorgeous and delicious and a roasted vegetable tart !
we then headed for home via another lovely town, kyneton, we stopped for coffee and yes, some cake and a quick look around at some of the shops.
we had some fun in a clothes shop here, no photos sorry, but the gentleman behind the counter was trying to work us out! you see there was a husband and wife, one wife without her husband and me. it was a happy and fun day and another one of our day trips done. we then headed for home, to the husband waiting at home, we did offer to take him, but he was a happy man when he came out to carry in his pie and pastie supply! he can't complain now that there is nothing to eat!
i'll be back in a day or so to let you know of other things that have been happening !
