well it seems such a long time ago, but i had a couple of weeks in hobart in march looking after my dear little friend roly and a chance to visit my cousins and also see my friend maree
there he is in the garden looking intently at something that is moving
a beautiful artichoke growing, such lush growth !
and the blue sky and river derwent matching roly's blue ball
i love these toadstools in the riverside garden
and this succulent is very lush and some different toadstools in the front garden
and how could i not take this photo of the birdhouse in the pear tree ! fortunately the possums had not got to these two perfect pears, roly loves to bark at them sometimes, but most of the time i think they just stare at one another
yachts on the river are a common sight, all shapes and sizes, always interesting water watching
this one was so small and just two little friends out on the river on a beautiful saturday afternoon, they were only so young, hope they'll be friends for life
and this group all set their spinikers into action just opposite the house, so calm and so blue and so beautiful
then one night i was awakened very early in the morning to these bright lights of a cruise ship coming into port for the day
then from the river to the rural setting at my cousin paula's home (nothing is very far away in hobart) this beautiful soft pink sunset, roly loves sitting at these big windows watching all the wildlife, well i know he would rather be out running some of it down, but the glass is a good barrier ! i remember the chook feathers !
and the moon !
another beautiful evening at paula's
then home i came and we had our christine vlasic sunday workshop, this is jenny's marrakesh taking shape, all hand stitched, she is remembering her trip there and the colours of marrakesh
and jenny brought me a bunch of her fading hydrangeas, such beauties, the colours of each of these petals just look as if they have been dabbed with a paintbrush, nature's paintbrush is amazing !
oh i just love them, i have more and more photos of these beauties, but .................
christine's 'yarra designs' new quilt pattern 'information' is just a great quilt for boys or for anyone who flys and loves flying. it is available in my etsy shop, the link is on my side bar !
also another new pattern from sandra boyle 'everyday quilts' and this is called 'topsy turvy' also available in the etsy shop along with many others, good time to start a new quilt, it just got dark so quilckly ! winter is with us !
at our regular sewing sunday, jenny had finished handpiecing and putting together her 'carousel' quilt by 'everyday quilts', this pattern is also available in the shop
lots of the bits in this quilt was just made up from scraps, jenny's and mine, i can spot a few faves of mine ! i have finished the centre section of mine, obviously not working fast enough, jenny started hers after me
and lavena had finished her beautiful version of 'a trip around the world', she's had a few trips recently, falls in fact and broke a bone in her foot and so has been forced to sitting with leg up, oh yes i know all about that !!!!!
and so her 'luna lapin' book has been producing lots of rabbits, this is the latest couple
and clever denise, with inspiration from 'hensteeth' has been having lots of fun creating, she is very talented
and another one, there were heaps more and more
then we had our embroidery days with gail, 'mrs sew & so' and the girls are all doing some beautiful work
jan is embellishing a beautiful piece of printed linen for a cushion on the chair in her courtyard
and this is my version of 'carousel', i have so enjoyed making this quilt, i like circles, and making up all of these different carousels was lovely, i enjoyed every little stitch ---------
so now onto the borders, i love this border, simple but effective
now to the saturday embroidery girls, barb is embroidering a bird that will go with this beautiful bit of fabric noelle had, the two were made to match ! good spotting noelle !
maree's is looking just wonderful, not long to go before another finish
the colours and texture of this piece are beautiful
talking of texture, jan has certainly created some here
and below, yvonne is embroidering on one of our favourite 'est' linen teatowells, we love a linen teatowell !
then i went roadtripping to bathurst and under clear blue beautiful sun shiny days, the purpose was to to attend brigitte giblin's 'quilts in the shearing shed' exhibition. all roads led to o'connell, approx 20 klms from bathurst, so many known faces there and five of us melbourne girls made the trip and met up with others ! the downside was the motel i chose to stay in and others followed, but we all survived
some well known quilty faces and husbands, barbara and sharon, or ladyshar on instagram were enjoying the scones with jam and cream in the sunshine, as we all were, such a lovely setting, out in the country
wendy here about to walk the cattle gangway to the shearing shed, the vacuumed shearing shed i might mention with all the quilts displayed beautifully and lots of people making their way around the space
brigitte and her students work was displayed so well inside this shearing shed
the 'trips' were all displayed on a wool classing table and they all went for a bit of a spin during the days, they looked beautiful and wonderful, all that colour and little bits of fabric all cut up and sewn together again
this beautty made by instagram 'newenglandlibby' won the viewers choice prize and was so well deserved, a really lovely quilt, mixing fabrics from all the different eras, just gorgeous ! congratulations libby !
hope you're enjoying the show
and i know that white gloved hand
yes it belongs to jean 'misslinen', she was on duty in the white gloves ! i have posted lots of other photos on my instagram page 'lizatbroderie' ! it was lovely to see lots of faces and friends i know, all those kms from melbourne and it was also so nice that many made themselves known to me ! my dear friend marl referred to you all as my 'fans', this was soooo funny !!!!! so here my fans is the blog post i promised, thanks to you all for reading this blog and my musings nand all the pics and for missing it when i'm not so frequent with my posting as i should be ! it's good to know that i bring so much pleasure to so many, i joke about being famous now !
