credit where credit is due !

i had been made aware of an article published in Australian 'Homespun' magazine, the current edition, so purchased a copy !

and inside

this same article was originally published in the french magazine 'Marie Claire Idees' just last year with permission and design by Gail Bett, 'mrs sew & so', who many of you know that i work with and have done for many, many years. Gail has been the mentor and designer of many patterns that we happily embroider. i do not know the policy of the use of these articles between magazines, these are the actual cushions designed and embroidered by Gail and the make up of them was organised by me with the wonderful Sandra. so i know them  intimately, however 'Homespun' has printed the same article from the french magazine and someone else has been credited with the design, no mention of our Australian and original designer Gail Bett.

 

the person credited has had no input whatsoever ! i just wanted to let readers know that like the old saying says, 'don't believe everything you read' ! in this case it is clearly wrong

this design is one of mine, picture created from an old calendar, but the stitching was influenced by Gail Bett after all the years of my working with her as a mentor. give credit where credit is due, i say, and clearly the magazine industry is not doing that.

i have just spent a weekend away with some friends stitching, last year Bev won a collection of fat quarters each given by all those attending and the challenge is to make a quilt using and including all of those fabrics. Bev took on the daunting challenge and the above quilt is the result, well done Bev !

jenny got a bargain from the local op shop, this framed tapestry, $4.00, she unframed it at the shop and left them with the frame and she is going to incorporate it into a cushion. 

i have been stitching some more whirligigs, lots more to do !

there were lots of lovely collections of fabrics in the sewing room over the weekend

we are all so fortunate that we have so many choices of beautiful fabrics to play with and so many designs, inspiration everywhere !

marching along

i was going to be good and do a post on the 1st of this month so the calendar would be brought up to date before the middle of the month, or the end, as been the case lately !

its been busy around here, all sorts of plans being made and things being done ready for another Marg Sampson George workshop, this time in sydney, have not been there for years, always seem to be heading south to my favourite hobart ! surprises for those taking part, take time to get done and dusted !

Trish Harper has been creating this very pretty quilt combining both her lovely embroidery and hand piecing liberty squares. not finished yet, but last year i did show you the embroidered wreath that forms the centre. 

this will not become a pattern, but if you already do classes with Trish, then how lucky are you to be able to make this very pretty quilt top. for those of you who live in melbourne, Trish teaches at 'Amitie' in gardenvale.

surviving all the terrible hot days we have had here in melbourne this summer, these beauties were grown at point leo, a beach here in victoria where i spent lots of my teenage years, my late brother was a member of the surf club there, happy memories of those days ! thanks jenny !

the magazine table is sorted, for those of you that live in the uk, you can see that your 'country living' magazine is a real favourite with me and lots of my friends !

march also brings moomba and the moomba march, and a long weekend to celebrate, the meaning of moomba is 'lets get together and have fun', i didn't go out and do that and haven't any pictures, but thousands do and i always loved a carnival when small, so i can understand why all those families gather annually to enjoy moomba !

there are some out there who think i'm very strange always putting fresh water in the jug ! but i do make a good cup of tea and i'm happy with being strange !

the last two copies of quiltmania magazine have had patterns from Marg Sampson George in them along with some other australian quilters

so those of you who have loved this quilt can now make it, all the instructions are in the magazine !

and back to things round, marion's embroidered lampshade came back after being made up, and here it is with the light on

and the circle of dancing dollies (this pattern by trish harper is also available to purchase) i put some binding on this and two other quilts this morning for two friends, so barb, you know they are done !

grey winter days and bright moments

this week in melbourne there has been lots of grey skies and rain, floods and an earthquake, the shortest day and black caviar winning the diamond jubilee stakes at ascot in the united kingdom, wimbledon starts tomorrow, then the olympic games are not too far away. quite a week !

just some flowers first, all much like the weather, grey and white ! or these, a bit more colourful !

my home has had lots of friends calling with lots of bright moments and i have also been out too. as some of you will have read i spent an afternoon with meredithe with some sewing friends and that was good to see what each was doing.

this is 

'safari sunrise', careful where you pitch your tent, that is when the sun shines again ! watch out for the elepants and the hippos in your neighbourhood !

and the juggler ! a glimpse of this pattern suitable for children as a cot quilt or one just to love and give comfort

gail and the sewing girls were here on saturday of last weekend and there were lots of bright moments embroidery wise, as always and some things nearing completion

and in the current marie claire magazine just out in australia, guess who has a double page spread, congratulations !

the pattern and the instructions for the appliqued version and the embroidered one are in the magazine, i guess it helps if you can read the french language, but we embroiderers are really quite clever to work out the instructions when there are how to pictures too ! the stylists for the magazine have left an apple for the teacher, mmmmmh now there's an idea if you want to be teacher's pet !

i have my beautiful vicuna scarf to keep me warm on these chilly days, the finest of wool and so light and warm to wear, without the bulk

my plans for the week are to play with some of my toys and, oh yes that special birthday of my friend is only 3 weeks away and so i am still stitching hexagons and planning in my mind and looking forward to the event, excitement is building amoung the girls !

i was so pleased to receive my copy of this magazine with a very australian content with articles about people we know and places we visit, must be exciting for those who got a mention, congratulations to you all. i suggest if you don't have a copy, it is well worth seeking one out.

i have a guest in my own home to give a class in boutis, marie christine flocard is visiting australia at the moment and will be here tomorrow, along with gail bett. i have been busy preparing kits for the classes, so all is ready for action, i will show you some pictures of the happenings later

thanks to all those who have made contact with me about the leg ! i have answered you all personally, i mentioned it because i did not want you to think i was just a spoilt brat with the rose pruning and all the help i have been getting from neighbours and friends, their thoughts are all so special, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou !

 

 

 

just some lovely bits

my over the road neighbours, the 'bin friends' and my computer guru brought over this beautiful bloom a couple of days ago, it is a camellia called volcano, very apt in this part of the world at the moment, who would think that a volcano in chile could close down the airports with volcano ash clouds being the problem

i also loved this winter sky as sunset was getting ready to plunge us into darkness again at about 5.30pm, that little puff of pink cloud !

and then yesterday whilst out shopping i went to the newsagent and to my delight the may issue of this favourite magazine was out, i would like to live in this magazine, it never disappoints me

and as i lost myself in its pages last night, i just love the colours, the ideas, the gardens etc., i wanted to buy an old train carriage and renovate it just like the one in the article

my paternal grandfather was a steam train engine driver in tasmania and i went on a dream about ......... wouldn't be fun !

and this heading of an article, that's what life is really all about for all of us 'all kinds of everything'

as you can see, i just loved so much about this edition, and then there was another magazine that took my eye

some of those who know me, will know about me and numbers ! well here we are again ! the tenth anniversary edition of 'quilters companion magazine' and here i was on the cover again, in 2008 i was on the cover, well the quilt that was a joint project when 'amitie' and 'broderie' were operating together, was on the cover !

here it is, i guess the quilt is still at 'amitie' somewhere ??? it is all about the '10' and the '8'

and then in the mail today arrived from the usa, this cashmere knitwear, yes i shopped on line, 3 garments plus postage for less than $100.00 and delivered to my door. they are gorgeous cashmere, i love the colours and the softness made me feel that i wanted to bury my head in them !

i will dream on as i turn the pages of the magazine, sometimes aren't we easy pleased !

well i am !

i have a friend, whose husband often says ' listen to you both', everything is 'gorgeous'!!!!! well i know that it is often an over used word, but i think that what i am going to show you in pictures, lives up to the expression! see how many of you can agree and send a 'gorgeous' comment.

if your name starts with 's' and you're having a 50th birthday soon, then you could be receiving one of these! i love linen teatowels, then they became these gorgeous monogrammed cushions. a really beautiful gift for special friends. well done deidre!

i also watched 'love actually', the film was on television on friday night and i took time out to sit and watch it, i love that film, it is gorgeous! caught up with some good, old friends on friday and saturday, enjoyed my day at home today listening to some beautiful music, and also having a good conversation with a good friend! thanks margaret, thankyou all, i feel good today!

noah took some roses

recently, when i was staying with my cousins, i noticed this view from the windows of the kitchen and thought how special that these roses were flowering so perfectly on and around mothers day and so took this photo.

 

and then in this magazine, i loved these rooms in this little english cottage and once again i loved the roses. I have always been drawn to that 'chinz rose look', in fact in my 'dreams', i want to live in a house decorated like this. i like the all in together, cosy rosie look!

 

 

 

and then just to show off the finished, with binding and ready to put on the bed or over the chair look of this old favorite (thanks to those of you who made comments about it) in the last post, my candied hexagons quilt, which is such fun to do, i may do another one day.

 

 

and now onto the next one, oh yes there are others waiting to be quilted. while i have the quilting 'bug' i will keep going till i become distracted.
